Paint for Peaks Snowboard

February 19, 2013

IMG_5959 - Version 3snowboard copy

Once again I have painted a snowboard for the Paint for Peaks Art Auction, which raises money for breast cancer awareness. The auction will take place this Saturday in the Taos Ski Valley.

This is my first real painting since having a baby.  The most difficult part was getting started because I had to change my way of working.  Once I began the painting flowed and I really enjoyed myself most of the time.  During the creation of each art work I experience ebbs and flows of effort and results.

I had the image  in my mind of what I wanted the board to look like.  It never turns out like I imagine, but I am pleased with the results. It has a calm, peaceful stillness which I experience while being in nature when it is snowing.

Unfortunately I am not a very good photographer.  The original work does not have any color in the ski except grey snowflakes.

Now that my time is full of caring for a helpless creature I have realized on a whole new level how precious time is.  The result is I am becoming far better at time management.  Below is a painting I made for my nephew Leo.  He is actually my cousin once removed, but that gets so complicated.  It was mostly painted with my baby in a ergo baby carrier.  I love the baby carrier!
This picture is fuzzy, but I will replace it with a clear one as soon as I can

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

For knowledge is limited to all we know and understand,

while imagination embraces the entire world, and

all there ever will be to know and understand
